How It Works
The Epic Smart Shield is an inline under-sink filter. It connects to your cold water line with the included connectors and hoses, with no plumber required, and fits neatly alongside your garbage disposal and storage items.
Its solid carbon block reduces contaminants without stripping out calcium, magnesium and potassium the way reverse osmosis does. IAPMO R&T (an ANSI-accredited certification body) certifies it to NSF/ANSI 42, 53 and 401 at its full 651-gallon rated capacity.
When to replace: every 651 gallons, which is about 12 months for most households.

The photo illustrated install guide was a blessing. I could practice it in my head before I got to it for real. For an old guy like me the hardest part was crawling under the sink. The install was so easy. I did have a small leak from one of the tubes and I remembered the guide saying to make sure that you push them in all the way into their lock sockets. I could have cut the tubes to remove the slack but I got lazy. My first glass of filtered water was mind blowing. I had no idea my city water was so bad. I highly recommend this filter.

Love this our lives has not been the same since we’ve installed our under sink water filter. My kids love the fact that they can grab a cup and get water straight form the tap without worrying about contaminations it makes everyone’s life so much easier. (I also posted this review on Amazon) First, I did some extensive research into an under sink filter that was not an RO unit. In addition to a reduction of cabinet space and waste flow not making RO a good option for me, I also didn't really have a good place to install a dedicated faucet. I settled on this Epic filter due to its predecessor (Epic Smart Shield), the excellent reviews about the water quality post filter, and the NSF ratings (some Max testing is still pending). In addition, since I was installing this in the kitchen sink cold water line, I was very concerned about the flow rate. I had settled on either this Epic unit or the Clearly Filtered 3 stage and chose this one due to the flow rate. I am very happy to report that the reduction in flow is hardly noticeable if there is one at all (my kitchen sink flow rate is approximately 0.8gpm).
The overall design is 'good' and the only reason I don't say 'excellent' is due to the mounting style. The mounting method is a single slide hole on rear of the housing and is just not a great design. As a product and service engineer, it pains me see such things, but it is what it is. I obviously knew this up front due to my research, so I also knew I was going to make my own mount. After going through several methods in my head, I settled on a custom arrangement that allowed me to attach the fliter housing directly to my garbage disposal using a 1.5" velcro strap and a holster belt clip mounted to the filter head, all…

We only drink Alkaline water. This system has proven to produce water that competes with the flavor of our alkaline water. I am so impressed with the taste and ease of installation. I had a little trouble at first, but it was related to my sink connections not the system.
