How it started
Epic Water Filters was founded in April 2015 by Ash, who, after moving to the U.S. from Asia, was deeply impacted by the widespread plastic pollution along beaches and rivers. Motivated to address this environmental crisis, Ash embarked on a mission to create a sustainable solution. Meanwhile, Joel, our other co-founder, was scaling his own outdoor e-commerce store and shared a similar passion for clean water. His drive was personal, with his wife had been one of over 400,000 people affected by the cryptosporidium outbreak in Milwaukee in 1993. When Joel and Ash connected in Boulder, Colorado in early 2016, their shared vision led them to team up, reincorporating the company and committed to reducing plastic waste and providing safer water for all.

Our filters make us unique
It started with developing a bottle with a robust filter in it, so people in countries with poor water quality could drink that water without getting sick, at the same time reducing the need for single-use plastic water bottles in those countries. With Flint, Michigan making international headlines in 2015 with its massive and unimaginable water pollution crisis, it became apparent that it was not just developing countries that had water quality problems.

Our mission is simple
It's now clear that developed countries are the worst offenders of single-use plastic bottle pollution as the citizens of these countries do not trust the quality of their municipal water, primarily due to industrial and agricultural pollutants. The truth is that bottled water isn’t good for our bodies, our wallets, or for the planet. The faster the world realizes this--the better it is for everyone.
