Standard Brita pitcher filters reduce chlorine taste and odor plus certain metals like copper, cadmium, mercury, and zinc, but they are not designed to remove PFAS, most pesticides, fluoride, bacteria, or viruses. What your filter covers depends on the model, so check its certification listing.
Do Brita Filters Remove Fluoride?
Standard Brita pitcher filters use granular activated carbon and are not designed or tested to reduce fluoride. If fluoride reduction matters to you, you need a filter specifically formulated and independently tested for it.
Standard Brita filters reduced PFAS by about 66% in independent EWG testing, and the Brita Elite managed 22%. If PFAS is the reason you are buying a filter, choose one specifically tested for PFOA and PFOS reduction and check the published test data first.
