Potential health impacts

We don’t know whether PFAS will cause a specific health impact for an individual. That’s because many factors, such as health history and lifestyle, can cause health impacts.

Children ages 0-5 years, and people who are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding are more susceptible to health impacts from these chemicals. Other vulnerable populations include people who live in highly contaminated communities and people who have occupational exposure. 

PFOA and PFOS

Scientists have the most evidence about the health impacts of two PFAS chemicals, PFOA and PFOS. There is strong evidence that PFOA and PFOS:

• Increase cholesterol. 
• Impact the immune system. 
• Decrease infant birth weight.
• Cause changes in liver function.

There is moderate evidence that PFAS are associated with:

• Preeclampsia and high blood pressure during pregnancy.
• Effects on thyroid hormones.

There is also evidence that PFOA increases the risk of kidney and testicular cancer.

For many people, exposure to PFAS in drinking water is more significant than typical exposures from sources such as food and consumer products.

• If you get drinking water from a public water system, visit the public water systems status document to see if your system has tested yet.

  • If your water provider is not listed on the document, it’s possible your public water system tested for PFAS but did not participate in CDPHE's sampling programs.

  • If your public water system has tested for PFAS, they might have their results on their website. You can also reach out to your system directly to ask about test results.

  • If your system has not tested for PFAS or signed up to test for PFAS, encourage it to do so through the PFAS Grant Program.

• If you get drinking water from a private well, have the well tested for PFAS. You can request free testing through the PFAS Grant Program.

• This is a pilot project serving households in Bailey, CO. If you live in ZIP code 80421 and use a private well, you are eligible for free PFAS testing. Information can be found here.

Technical Information

The Nano Pitcher includes one (1) Nano Filter that has an average life of around 3 to 4 months. Filter life varies based on your average daily use and the quality of your municipal or well water. Our filters are deliberately designed to operate at a measured pace. This isn't a flaw, but rather an intentional feature grounded in science. Each filter boasts a solid blend of our proprietary media, meticulously crafted to maximize contact time with water. Which could be anywhere between 20 minutes and 1-2 hours. Why is this important? The longer water remains in contact with our filter media, the more efficient and thorough the purification process becomes, ensuring that every drop you consume is of the highest quality.

To keep the filter in optimal condition, we advise maintaining it saturated in water. This not only prevents the media blocks from drying up but also ensures consistent and effective filtration over time. Think of it as allowing a fine wine to breathe, unlocking its fullest potential. Similarly, our filters take their time to provide you with water that's unparalleled in purity and taste.

The bottom reservoir of the Pitcher holds about half a gallon of unfiltered water, and since the filter is good for 150 gallons, you can determine how long it will last depending on how often you fill up!
